Water & Swimming Basics

Much like human babies, dogs come with an innate sense of how to swim. Some breeds come by it more naturally than others, and that is where we can help! We will cater a process of slow and gentle water introduction to your dog’s individual needs and personality. We will make sure that it is a fun and rewarding experience for all involved, and that it is an activity they will look forward to in the future!  From finding their stroke to learning how to exit the water in a safe way, all bases will be covered as part of our water intro curriculum.

Water sessions are done as an extension of our private training sessions, and the cost is $150 per 90 minute session. Keep in mind that it is important to build trust with a new pup before introducing them to something that can be scary at first like water, so we only do water sessions after an introductory session has been completed in the home.

We commonly do these sessions at places like Barkin’ Springs, Sculpture Falls, or a back yard pool or your choosing. If you have a big jumper, we can also do sessions on dock-diving at a special facility near San Marcos (facility rental cost not included).  Water is not only great exercise for a dog, but it can be extremely therapeutic as well for those with anxiety or reactivity issues. We look forward to showing you how to get your doggy paddle in tip top shape!
